A GLORIOUS THING TO BE A PIRATE KING!
Essgee's Pirates of Penzance came onto the scene in 1994 and has been a crowd favourite ever since. This adaptation of Gilbert and Sullivan's classic is a riotous 'poperetta' story of a roguish pirate king and his young charge who explore the coastline in search of treasure and romance. Sentimental pirates, bumbling policemen, dim-witted lovers, dewy-eyed daughters and an eccentric Major-General, all morally bound to ridiculous dictates of honour and duty.
The enchanting arias remain as beautiful as ever, but this production features more laughs and a modern sound that gives a refreshing take on the G&S classic comedy of mistaken identity.
