Savoyards Musical Comedy Society brings the musical, THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE to the Star Theatre in Manly, Qld on February 11, 2023 for a limited season.
An eclectic group of six mid-pubescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, the tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life un-affirming "ding" of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Six spellers enter; one speller leaves! At least the losers get a juice box. It's a musical for anyone who's ever (miss)spelled anything.
There's even a bit of audience participation if you're up for it. So get stuck into your Wordle and crosswords and get ready to raise your hand if you want to immerse yourself in some fun. You might even win a juice box.
